STAR BROOD COW AWARD

The Star Brood Cow Award recognises breeding matrons that have progeny with above average production and type characteristics. Stars are given to cows whose progeny gain points on daughters (a minimum of three) classification and production and any sons Breeding Worth and conformation traits. Breeders can nominate a registered cow they think is worthy of the award.

Conditions

A pedigree Holstein Friesian cow shall be credited with one star for each six points gained by her progeny, provided that three or more of her progeny have earned points. When ET progeny have contributed to star points, this must be indicated whenever a star award is published (EG: Charnwood Bruce Sunday 5*ET)

1. ON DAUGHTER'S CLASSIFICATION
a) Each Excellent (90) daughter earns 3 points
b) Each Very Good (85 – 89) daughter earns 2 points
c) Each Good Plus (80 – 84) daughter earns 1 point

2. ON SEASONAL PROTEIN, FAT OR LW
a) Each daughter with any one season's production exceeding 255kg protein or 315 kg fat, or has a seasonal LW* of 235 earns 3 points.
b) Each daughter with any one season's production exceeding 225kg protein or 275 kg fat, or has a seasonal LW* of 160 earns 2 points.
c) Each daughter with any one season's production exceeding 190kg protein or 235 kg fat, or has a seasonal LW* of 85 earns 1 point.
NOTE: POINTS CAN BE EARNED FROM ONLY ONE LACTATION FOR SEASONAL PRODUCTION.

3. ON LIFETIME PRODUCTION
a) Each daughter with a lifetime production exceeding 2,040 kg protein or 2,520 kg fat, or PW* of 150/80%, earns 3 additional points.
b) Each daughter with a lifetime production exceeding 1,800 kg protein or 2,220 kg fat, or PW* of 110/80%, earns 2 additional points.
c) Each daughter with a lifetime production exceeding 1,520 kg protein or 1,880 kg fat, or PW* of 70/80%, earns 1 additional point.

4. ON SON'S SIRE SURVEY
Each son earns 1 point for every $19 BW* (above a reliability off 75%) or Protein BV* 45/75% 3 points, PBV 35/75% 2 Points, PBV 25/75% 1
Point - as recorded on National Database.

5. ON SON'S TOP SIRE EVALUATION
Each son earns 1 point for every 0.18 Udder Conformation BV* and 1 point for every 0.24 Dairy Conformation BV* (with a Reliability of 75%) - as recorded on National Database

6. The cow can be initially nominated at anytime including post humously up to five years after her death. She may be re-nominated any number of times, subsequent to the first nomination.

7. If the member nominating the cow for Star Brood status does not own the cow, then written permission will be sought from the owner before the nomination is accepted.

8. Each application for a Star Brood Cow Award will have a $57.50 (Incl. GST) processing fee for the initial nomination. If a cow is re-nominated for Star Brood then all subsequent nominations are $28.75 (Incl. GST) each.

*All Star Brood awards will be calculated following the September AE run.
