Tahora Topshelf II Sale Results

Guest auctioneer, Brian Leslie of Australia, enjoyed a record breaking sale at the Tahora Topshelf II sale held in Tai Tapu, Canterbury grossing a total $479,000.00 for the 52 lots on offer. The vendors, Jim & Judith Geddes and Dean & Jo Geddes were celebrating 87 years of breeding Holstein Friesians.

The first and top lot had its Ashburton buyers purchasing a half share in a calf for $38,000.00. Tahora Braxton Tonibee descends from 2002 and 2004 Royal Show Champion Cow Tahora Romeo Tonio EX. Tonibee’s dam Tahora B Goldwyn Toni-ET EX is also a champion winning at the Rangiora and Canterbury Shows.

Another descendent of Romeo Tonio, 2012-born Tahora Sid Tonigold, was purchased for $27,000.00 by the Leslie Family of Bluechip Genetics, Kaiapoi. Tonigold’s dam Tahora Goldwyn Toni-ET VG88 is best known as the Supreme Champion at the 2011 NZ Dairy Event in Feilding amongst her many other show successes.

The third highest lot to sell at the sale was yearling Tahora Sanchez Tonio, sister to Tonigold’s dam, Goldwyn Toni. Sanchez Toni sold for $22,000.00 to the Gates Family of Shannon in the Manawatu.

The 52 lots averaged $9,211.00. Eleven cows averaged $8,773.00, 16 in-calf heifers $8,594, 22 yearlings averaged $9,636.00 and two embryo packages of five embryos each averaged $2,000.00.
